Startup Weekend is a global network of passionate leaders and entrepreneurs on a mission to inspire, educate, and empower individuals, teams and communities. Come share ideas, form teams, and launch startups.

Sabri Saidam

Advisor to the Palestinian President on Telecommunications, Information Technology and Technical Education, Deputy Secretary of Fateh Council, Former minister of Telecom & IT, Mr. Sabri led telecom market liberalization in Palestine in 2006 introducing the second mobile phone operator. He also led the introduction and ratification of the Palestine Telecom Regulatory Authority (PTRA) law. In addition, he introduced a series of initiatives inclusive of e-Gov, the National Academic Network, Falastinyia (enhancing women participation in the ICT market), the Palestine Education Initiative (PEI),with a wide international partnership.

Mr. Sabri helped launch .PS and its governing body, the Palestinian National Internet Naming Authority (PNINA) and founded the award winning Palestine Digital Library in 2004 and the Palestine e-Republic in 2007. He also co-founded the Internet Society- Palestine Chapter (ISOC-PS), PC & Net 4 All (for providing PCs and internet connectivity to deprived citizens) and the Birzeit Innovation Group (BIG), for innovation in technology.

Mr. Sabri was born in 1971 and holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine in London, and a certification in Human Development from Oxford University. H recently,He recently completed a number of ICT- related studies, the last of which was on ICT in MENA (2011-2015).

Muhammad Zahalqa

Muhammad Zahalqa is veteran entrepreneur who is working on building his fourth company. He is currently working as CTO with Experis software and with his own consultancy firm TryFinally.com.

Muhammad has a proven track in leading, managing and acting as CTO on advanced software projects.
His expertise is in the domain of large scale enterprise application architectures focusing on parallel algorithms, scaling.
He has previously cofounded "We! Consulting" in 2000 which later was sold in 2007 to Hilan Tech. Cofounded "Agile Business solutions" in 2008 and which was sold to Netwise in 2010.

Being an experienced architect with passion to programming he masters more than seven programming languages.
Currently working on Android kernel to optimise eMMC usage.

Saed Nashef

Saed Nashef is Founding Partner at Sadara Ventures, the first IT-focused, early-stage venture capital firm in Palestine. He co-founded and was previously CTO of Equiom, Inc., a software consultancy with operations in Washington and Colorado, and founded and was managing director of Equiom-MENA, a company based in Ramallah, which delivered software-outsourcing services to clients in international markets. Prior to founding Equiom, Saed lead a team of software engineers at Fidesic, a Seattle-based, venture-backed Internet startup in the electronic payments space. Before that, he spent six years at Microsoft in various software engineering and leadership roles.

In June 2010, Saed served as a member of the U.S. Presidential Delegation to the Palestine Investment Conference in Bethlehem. He was also a West Bank delegate to the U.S. Presidential Summit on Entrepreneurship held in April 2010 in Washington, DC.

In July 2009 Saed was selected to join the Kauffman Fellows Program at the Center for Venture Education in Palo Alto. He recently graduated as the first Kauffman Fellow in the Arab Middle East, and was the Class 14 recipient of the Jeff Timmons Memorial Award for service.

Huda El Jack

Massar International, a Ramalled based holding company manages a network of 15 subsidiaries in multiple sectors. The Company made history in Private Equity in 2003 by launching the 1st Palestinian Fund Management Company and again in 2011 when its first fund became the 1st Private Equity Fund, dedicated to investing in companies operating in Palestine, to ever close. Siraj Palestine Fund 1, a 90 Million fund is designed to invest exclusively in enterprises operating in Palestine, focusing on those with the potential to become market leaders or expand their operations internationally. Since its launch, the Fund has committed over 25% of the total fund Size (or $25 Million) in 11 Palestinian companies across multiple sectors including Energy, Distribution, Hospitality, Financial Services, Agriculture and Agribusiness.

Since coming to Palestine from the US in 2003, Ms. El Jack has held several senior positions in leading Palestinian companies - serving as General Manager of Hadara, a Paltel Group Company, COO of VTEL, a Dubai based $1Billion Telecom Holding Company and Senior Associate at Massar International, a Ramallah holding company which manages a network of 15 subsidiaries.

In 2008, while completing her International Executive MBA at Kellogg Recannati School of Management she launched ZAMN premium coffee. Launched from Palestine ZAMN is the 1st International Espresso Coffee Brand to be launched in the Arab world. Today it operates two highly successful stores with a plan to take expand the chain across the country and region.

Ms. El Jack continues to be driven by her passion to impact market value creation through sustainable private sector development in the Palestine.

Ibrahim Taha

Ibrahim serves ThoughtWorks Ltd. as a Lead Consultant with experience in managing and coordinating projects, Agile coaching and training, defining test strategies in distributed agile projects, and test planning, including resource and release scheduling as well as extensive hands-on experience. Ibrahim also brings with him extensive experience of QA methodologies.

For the last 6.5 years at ThoughtWorks, Ibrahim worked on transforming organizations into Agile, as well as mentoring and executing delivery projects in different market sectors across the US, Canada, UK, and India, which includes leading delivery teams through the start of a project by helping out in the implementation of the inception and the execution of planned iterations.

In 2009, UNICEF Iraq sponsored a project on using mobile technology for humanitarian and social purposes. Ibrahim played a main role in coordinating and facilitating the mini inception during the ActiveMobile workshop for MENA region in Amman, Jordan. He instructed and coached the value of Agile methodology to the Iraqi ministries and officials, and local partners during the workshop. He also has acted as a communication bridge between all offshore teams in Amman and Bangalore and helped in improving the current state of affair until ActiveMobile first release was delivered to UNICEF. Ibrahim was also a trainer at ThoughtWorks University back in 2010 where trainees hired by ThoughtWorks from across the globe go through consultancy training program.

Based out of Chicago, Ibrahim worked as a QA Lead for SAP for 7 years prior to joining ThoughtWorks. He holds a BSc in Computer Science from Northeastern Illinois University and is completing his MBA from Keller Graduate School of Management.

Farooq Ali

Farooq is a lead product strategist, author, speaker, consultant and custom software industry expert with ThoughtWorks. For almost a decade, Farooq has coached clients in the US, UK, Canada and South Asia in the art and science of software development, from small and cutting-edge tech startups to large Fortune 500 multinational corporations across a wide range of industries, including retail, media, healthcare, energy, insurance, manufacturing and high-tech. Farooq also serves as the regional director of the Social Impact Program for North and South America, focusing on the intersection of technology and humanitarian development with organizations like Partners in Health and Mercy Corps. He holds a BSc in Computer Engineering from Virginia Tech and is completing his Masters in Information Technology from Harvard University Extension.

Originally from Karachi, Pakistan, Farooq currently lives in Toronto, Canada. A geek at heart, he still relishes hacking code outside his post-technical adventures, and is currently launching his own startup called blankcanvas, a collaborative ideation app for distributed teams.

George Khader

Asem Masri

Ahmad Afaneh

Ahmad Afaneh is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Systems Engineering at Birzeit University, Palestine. Sameh Alfar

Then he switched back to the startup environment when he started working with IPHASE Technologies, a Palestinian startup that focuses on web and mobile development. Sameh left IPHASE when he co-founded Yamsafer which is an online hotel booking system for the middle east region. Yamsafer is the first Palestinian startup to receive a 1 Million $ VC fund. Sameh is now the CTO of Yamsafer.

Rasheed Abueideh

Rasheed is a Founding Partner at ART Technologies where he manages mobile and game development with a focus on game design and storyline. Rasheed has lead the mobile application department to achieve two success stories, X-Bugs: a bug smashing game for android and iOS that was featured on the Google Play store, and Azkari: an Islamic application for daily prayers with more than 600,000 users and growing up.
Rasheed has more than 7 year of of experience in IT industry. He previously worked at Hulul, a company owned by Paltel group for 5 year leading projects in mobile and GIS.
Besides pursing his passion in game design, Rasheed also likes scuba diving, climbing and building robots.
